Support of local self-government units in improving practical training at business entities

On October 20, 2025, a meeting titled "Practical Training – Investment in the Future" was held in the City Council Hall of the Municipality of Breza, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, and the Municipality of Breza.

The purpose of the meeting was to present the steps in organizing practical training (PT) and the benefits that business entities can gain from it, to highlight the advantages for companies that provide practical training for students of secondary vocational schools, to share good practices with companies that are not yet involved in organizing such training, and to promote investment in formal education of students through practical training as a more cost-effective approach than investing in retraining, additional training, or upskilling of the workforce.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Municipalities of Breza and Vareš, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of ZDC, the Ministry of Economy of ZDC, the Mixed Secondary School Zavidovići, the Mixed Secondary School “Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar” Breza, the Gymnasium “Muhsin Rizvić” Breza, the Mixed Secondary School “Nordbat-2” Vareš, business entities from the municipalities of Breza and Vareš, and the Chamber of Commerce of ZDC.

During the meeting, participants exchanged opinions and suggestions and agreed on specific steps to further support local self-government units in improving this process.

These activities are part of the project “Improvement of the Framework for Sustainable Secondary Vocational Education with a Focus on Green Transformation”, implemented by the Chamber of Commerce of ZDC.

The project “Improvement of the Framework for Sustainable Secondary Vocational Education with a Focus on Green Transformation” is supported through the program “Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion (SEDEP)”, which aims to improve employability in Bosnia and Herzegovina by supporting the digital and green transformation of the economy. The SEDEP program is co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Government of Switzerland, and implemented by GIZ. Part of the project activities focuses on strengthening vocational education and training (VET) to enhance the vocational education system and ensure a qualified workforce necessary for the country’s sustainable economic development.
