Presentation of the "SteelCityZen" project at the Final conference within the "Program of Co-financing Adult Training for the Needs of the Labor Market in the Zenica-Doboj Canton 2025"

The Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton has successfully implemented the project "Active Employment Measures in the Zenica-Doboj Canton for 2025" through the "Program of Co-financing Adult Training for the Needs of the Labor Market in the Zenica-Doboj Canton". Program is co-financed by the Federal Employment Agency and the Government of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, through the Ministry of Labor, Social Policy and Refugees.
The Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton has been continuously implementing informal adult education programs for 6 years, which include the implementation of theoretical and practical training, as well as the employment of at least 35 unemployed persons, who are registered with the employment bureau in the Canton.
The project was implemented for a total duration of 8 months. The results of the research, previously conducted by the Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, on the needs of companies from the ZDC area for labor, indicated a continuous need for personnel in several sectors, namely: CNC operators in the metalworking and woodworking industries, welders in the metalworking sector, plastic processors in construction, and seamstresses in the textile, leather and footwear sector.
The implementation of the project "Active Employment Measures in the Zenica-Doboj Canton for 2025" has achieved the planned results. A total of 35 unemployed persons have successfully completed theoretical and practical training and have established employment, as follows:
- 12 CNC operators,
- 8 welders,
- 4 plastic processors and
- 11 seamstresses.
This year, the Program has been expanded by introducing training for the new profession "Electrician". The training program and training manual for the profession "Electrician" also contain a special training section intended for Solar Panel Installers. Within this part of the training program, through professional-theoretical classes for "Renewable Energy Sources", as well as practical classes for "Solar System Installations", candidates acquire knowledge and competencies in the field of green jobs, in order to be as competitive as possible on the labor market. This was an ideal opportunity to present the "SteelCityZen" project at the final conference, in order to match these two projects.
"SteelCityZen" is a transnational cooperation project funded by the Danube Region Programme, which brings together 11 partners from 9 countries, to tackle a common challenge across the Danube Region: the vulnerability of (mono)industrial cities facing economic transformation. These cities, which often rely on a single resource-intensive industry, are particularly exposed to employment risks linked to structural changes, such as the green and digital transitions.
The project aims to empower these local governments to diversify their local labour markets and support inclusive, sustainable development. This will be achieved through strengthened stakeholder cooperation, improved coordination between local governments and employment actors, and the development of innovative tools for local skills assessment and matching.
The implementation of the project lasts 36 months. The Lead partner is the Municipality of Dunaújváros from the Republic of Hungary, and the Chamber of Commerce of the Zenica-Doboj Canton as a project partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
